Champion Braised Rice Debuts Across Taiwan: A Delicious and Convenient Ready-to-Eat Option
Release date:2025-05-13
With support from Taiwan’s Agriculture and Food Agency (AFA), Ministry of Agriculture, two winning dishes from Taiwan’s First Flavor Feud—Beef & Tomato Braised Rice and Hakka Stir-fry Stew on Rice—have been developed and brought to market in collaboration with leading convenience store chain 7-ELEVEN and food brand Si Sheng Foods (known for selling over one million rice burgers annually).
Starting today, both dishes are rolling out across more than 7,000 7-ELEVEN stores nationwide, as well as through major retailers such as Carrefour and A.mart—making it easier than ever for consumers to savor the award-winning flavors of Taiwan’s champion braised rice (huìfàn), a saucy, flavor-rich rice dish reminiscent of risotto.
Local Tomato Sweetness vs. Fragrant Hakka Stir-Fry—Two Distinct Flavors to Suit Every Palate
The Tomato & Beef Braised Rice, winner of the Classic Flavors category, was originally created by Treeart Hotel, a distinctive boutique hotel in Taichung that also supervises the ready-to-eat version of the braised rice. The dish is crafted from the rice variety Taikeng No. 9, expertly blended with locally grown buckwheat and brown rice for added texture. Thanks to Si Sheng Foods’ advanced frozen rice technology, the grains remain delightfully chewy and rich in fiber after reheating. Each grain is enveloped in a luscious sauce made with fresh Taiwanese tomatoes, creating a harmonious balance of sweet and tangy notes. Complemented by tender beef brisket, the dish offers a layered taste experience that melds the aroma of rice with the richness of beef and the bright, sweet flavor of tomato—comforting and deeply satisfying.
Chef Lai Chun-Kai of Treeart Hotel has also supervised two additional offerings—Shacha Pork Rice and White Sauce Chicken Rice. All three braised rice dishes will be available starting May 15 at Carrefour, A.mart, and other major retailers, giving consumers a range of easy-to-purchase options to suit diverse tastes.
Meanwhile, the ready-to-eat version of the Hakka Stir-fry Stew on Rice, winner of the Creative Flavors category, is supervised by its creator Yu Zuan Zhen Pin (Liming Branch), a renowned Taichung restaurant specializing in Beijing and Shanghai cuisine. It features glistening, springy Tainan No. 11 rice as its base. To build its rich, layered flavor, dried shrimp, garlic, and chili are first flash-fried in hot oil to release their aroma. These aromatics are then tossed with roasted squid, pork belly, crispy tofu, and celery to create a deeply savory stir-fry that blends seamlessly with the rice. Now available exclusively at over 7,000 7-ELEVEN stores across Taiwan, this bold, flavor-packed braised rice is poised to become a new favorite among rice lovers—kicking off the next big trend in Taiwanese rice cuisine.
Certified High Standards for Food Safety—Enjoy Champion Flavors with Confidence
The AFA emphasizes that both flavor and safety begin with choosing the right rice. Both champion dishes—Beef & Tomato Braised Rice and Hakka Stir-fry Stew on Rice—are made with Taiwanese japonica rice certified under the TAP traceability program. Production takes place in facilities that meet stringent international standards, including ISO 22000 and HACCP certification, with full traceability from ingredient sourcing through processing and packaging. Every step complies with Taiwan’s Food Safety and Sanitation Act and its subordinate regulations, ensuring that consumers can enjoy each bite of champion-level braised rice with complete peace of mind.
The Beef & Tomato Braised Rice is priced at NT$125 per box and will launch at Carrefour stores starting May 15, followed by availability at A.mart by the end of May. The Hakka Stir-fry Stew on Rice is priced at NT$99 per box and is now available exclusively at 7-ELEVEN stores nationwide. In addition, 7-ELEVEN’s OPENPOINT members can enjoy a special limited-time promotional price of NT$89 with point redemption. Now is the perfect time to grab a box of champion braised rice and take home both great flavor and peace of mind!
