National Day Stage Blends Local Flowers and 3D Printing, Reflecting Four Key Concepts
According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), the ministry was invited by the National Day Celebration Committee to guide the Taiwan Florists’ Transworld Delivery Association in designing the stage under the theme “Blossoming Taiwan,” centered on the four concepts of agriculture, innovation, technology, and the ocean.
To represent agriculture, more than 20 of Taiwan’s iconic floral varieties—such as orchids, flamingo flowers, amaryllises, dancing-lady orchids, lisianthus, lilies, and assorted foliage and potted plants—were selected to showcase the rich diversity of Taiwan’s floriculture industry.
To reflect the “technology” concept, over ten superior cultivars developed by domestic research institutes were featured, highlighting Taiwan’s excellence in floral breeding and variety development. This year also marked the first use of 3D-printed blue and white structural frames symbolizing the ocean—an innovative design that highlights Taiwan’s geography as an island surrounded by the sea.
Behind the Floral Splendor: Taiwan’s Breeding Expertise Shines Internationally
The MOA further noted that the featured cultivars developed by research institutions included the flamingo flower Tainung No. 9—Fairy from the MOA’s Floral Industry Innovation Center; the variegated monstera Kaohsiung No. 1—Dawn and the flamingo flowers Kaohsiung No. 3—Red Bell, Kaohsiung No. 4—Red Star, Kaohsiung No. 5—Venus, and Kaohsiung No. 6—Mona Lisa from the Kaohsiung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station; the fishbone fern Taitung No. 1 from the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station; the ivy Pikaju from National Chung Hsing University; and the moth orchid HTM1951#19 from National Chiayi University.
These cultivars not only display exquisite color and form but also embody the perseverance and optimism of the Taiwanese people—an enduring drive to keep moving forward. The MOA emphasized that, of Taiwan’s 1,675 registered plant variety rights to date, 1,327 belong to the floriculture sector, accounting for 80 percent and demonstrating the industry’s global competitiveness and innovative strength.
A Birthday Celebration in Bloom—Growing Together with the Nation
The MOA remarked that flowers and greenery symbolize strength and hope. On the nation’s birthday, the sea of blossoms served not only as a blessing to the country but also as a gesture of care for its people. Flowers bring joy to every setting—from national celebrations to everyday life—and the ministry encourages everyone in Taiwan to embrace flowers in their homes and daily routines, celebrating the island’s beauty and moving forward together in full bloom.
