Taiwan enters into bilateral organic equivalence arrangement with Australia and New Zealand, opening up export opportunities for organics
Release date:2020-03-02
The COA indicates that entering into bilateral organic equivalence with Australia and New Zealand is a follow up to the memorandum on the mutual recognition of organic equivalence Taiwan and Japan signed on October 30 last year (2019). In addition to solidifying Taiwan’s trading partnerships with these countries, the arrangements also establish communication and coordination mechanisms between both sides’ competent authorities and enable further cooperation on agricultural matters.
The COA emphasizes that the signing of bilateral equivalence arrangements is indicative of the signing party’s trust in Taiwan’s organic certification system and organic agri-products. Following those announcements, the consultation with countries including the US and Canada for bilateral organic equivalence recognition will soon take place. The COA is currently working on marketing campaigns overseas for domestic organic agri-products. Taking part in reputable organic fairs and working with local retailers to host marketing events will get more foreigners to know about Taiwan’s organic marks and start choosing Taiwanese organic products, which enable domestic organic producers to export their products.
