To pay tribute to more than six thousand NHI (National Health Insurance)-contracted pharmacies and public health centers for their efforts on distributing face masks, the Agriculture and Food Agency, the Council of Agriculture, the Executive Yuan (AFA) joins together with Taiwan Florists' Transworld Delivery Association (TFTDA) to hold “Flowers of Joy and Appreciation” flower gifting event. On April 22, 2020, at Taipei Flower Auction Company, AFA Director-General Jong-I Hu, alongside the leading actor of the promotion film for domestic flowers William Hsieh, presents the flower gift to the Managing Director of Taiwan Pharmacist Association Mr. Jen-Chen Yeh as their token of appreciation, while people around the country are invited to spread the joy by gifting flowers to health care professionals who are on the frontline fighting the COVID-19.
One flower, one hearty thank
Since the requirement of identity verification for the mask-rationing program from February 6, over six thousand countrywide NHI-contracted pharmacies and public health centers have been on the clock distributing face masks under strict protocols, which mounted into huge pressure for all involving personnel. But their contribution has enabled over 1.2 million Taiwanese people each day to acquire face masks and go about their daily life risk-free. To thank these heroes in the dark, the AFA’s initiative “Flowers of Joy and Appreciation” in conjunction with TFTDA will subsequently deliver 6,700 flower gifts in appreciating the effort of all the staff working at pharmacies and health centers during this period.

To draw the public support for domestic flowers, the AFA reached the famous TV star William Hsieh, who just won the Best Actor in a Leading Role in the 24th Asian Television Awards, for him to star in the agency’s promotion film. In a post-pandemic world where people are inclined to distance from one another, as joy and happiness were gradually being introduced back to people through flowers, three characters, all portrayed by Mr. Hsieh, ended up with big smiles on their face, which encourages audiences to follow suit and pass on the happiness with flowers.
