New Southbound Agricultural National Team formed by the industry, academia, and research institutes to showcase their technical prowess at the 2020 Taiwan International Agricultural Machinery and Materials Exhibition in Taoyuan

Release date:2020-10-16
On October 16, 2020, Agriculture and Food Agency, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan (AFA) hosts a conference surrounding the project “Operation for Potential Markets in the Asia-Pacific Region through Added-value Marketing and Production as well as Logistics Management for Agricultural Products” at Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport. This event invites experts from the industry, government, and academia to share their insights on industry trends, project highlights, and experience in New Southbound marketing. The AFA will also exhibit the achievements of the “New Southbound Agricultural National Team” as part of the “15th Taiwan International Agricultural Machinery and Materials Exhibition in Taoyuan”, which will take place at the plaza in front of Taoyuan High Speed Railway Station between October 17 and 19. Featured sections include those on quality healthy seedlings for export, the development of labor-saving agri-machinery, the development of agricultural processing, agricultural equipment and facilities, and overseas bases for trial plantation. You will find something of interest regardless of your field of expertise.

Examine Taiwan’s advantages to form New Southbound Agricultural National Team

In conjunction with New Southbound Policy, the AFA has been coordinating the implementation of the flagship project “Operation for Potential Markets in the Asia-Pacific Region through Added-value Marketing and Production as well as Logistics Management for Agricultural Products” since 2017. The project aimed to build on the “quality” and “safety” image of Taiwan agriculture by filling up key technology gaps in export operation to help domestic industries break out and achieve flourishing development.

The AFA indicates that Taiwan has superior production technologies that are exemplified by the achievements in the production system, core technologies in labor-saving machinery, and preservation and processing techniques. Through the collaborative effort of private enterprises, universities, as well as research and extension stations, the country conducts business cooperation, talent exchange, and resource sharing with New Southbound countries in a mutually beneficial manner. Compared to the former individualized approach, this flagship project leans toward uniting all domestic stakeholders for greater competitiveness against foreign counterparts.

Conference for experience sharing on New Southbound marketing

Cultivation of New Southbound talent is critical, so are local connections and market information on overseas agriculture. That is why the flagship project has established 10 demonstration or cooperation sites and three professional multinational research teams to gather information about local agricultural markets and engage in personnel exchange. To enlarge the cultivation of New Southbound talent, the AFA hosts a conference on the project “Operation for Potential Markets in the Asia-Pacific Region through Added-value Marketing and Production as well as Logistics Management for Agricultural Products” at Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport on October 16, 2020. 13 experts from the industry, government, and academia are invited to share their insights on industry trends, project highlights, and experience in New Southbound marketing. By passing on those knowledge and experience to newcomers and help them grasp local market information and policy dynamics, the event strengthens Taiwan’s cultivation of New Southbound talent.

Catch all the technical booms and achievement highlights on one site

The flagship project has resulted in numerous achievements over its four years of implementation. To spread the message among citizens and enable those results to help with New Southbound marketing, the AFA will exhibit the achievements of the “New Southbound Agricultural National Team” as part of the "15th Taiwan International Agricultural Machinery and Materials Exhibition in Taoyuan”, which will take place at the plaza in front of Taoyuan High Speed Railway Station between October 17 and 19.

The AFA further elaborates that this year’s 30 achievements can be broken down into three main sections—seeds and seedlings, labor-saving agricultural machinery, and agricultural processing techniques. The seeds and seedlings section features a range of healthy domestic seedlings including grafted passionfruit seedlings, banana seedlings, and vegetable seedlings; in the labor-saving agricultural machinery section, solutions such as seedling grafting systems, pineapple planters, field management machines, harvesters, and collaborative intelligent vehicles are demonstrated; results in agricultural processing include pancakes made of domestic germinated black beans, ginger and pomelo-flavored energy bars with reduced sugar, and diversified onion products.

The conference on the 16th shares the latest technological advancements and experience in New Southbound marketing, followed by the live demonstration of agri-machinery and business matching from 17th to 19th. These events solidify the foundation for Taiwan’s agriculture to expand southbound, achieve industrial upgrades and internationalization, and make the leap on to the world stage.
