Release date:2020-12-18
Ready for the post-pandemic era? Agriculture and Food Agency (AFA) and Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI) joined with the finest food processors in the country to form the national team for disease-prevention food. After half a year of development, nine exclusive disease-prevention and disaster reserve food products made with domestic agricultural ingredients, including a red-sweet-potato drink, hit the shelf of 260 POYA stores and will be available until March 23, 2021. Whether you are an office goer, trend follower, or family person looking to have a great meal in a rush, come and give it a try!

Standing against the disease with POYA by making 9 delicacies readily available

The AFA indicates that to cope with the pandemic and the prospect of extreme weather events that call for emergency food supplies, the AFA joined force with FIRDI and POYA chain stores in the development and promotion of disease-prevention food made with domestic agricultural ingredients. The finest food processors were invited to utilize domestic materials as primary ingredients to create disease- and disaster-prevention food packs, which are made to consumer preference in both taste and nutrition. Those products can either be consumed as everyday meals or used as emergency reserves, which come in handy during the pandemic or potential disasters and prepare the citizens for critical situations like diseases, disasters, and shortage while enabling the diverse use of domestic agricultural food.

The AFA explains that those disease-prevention food items were ranked on the following three criteria—marketing potential, ease of consumption, and health function. After preliminary and follow-up reviews and product adjustments, nine spotlight products from six food companies, namely, Ve Wong, UTC, D.E Chung Hua, Ou-Dean, Chou Chin, and Dahu Strawberry Farm have been selected. The products are braised chicken with scallions and taro, tri-color sweet-potato balls, pumpkin soup, functional white fungus in osmanthus soup, burdock black fungus soup, red-sweet-potato drink, steamed soybean, black rice, and banana cartilage broth. They will be conveniently available at 260 POYA stores across the country.

True to ingredients by preserving all the flavors and nutrients

The AFA stresses that domestic agricultural ingredients are not only rich in variety and diversity, they also have shorter food-mileage over imports, which gives them better freshness and quality. The concept of disease-prevention food is about bringing together local ingredients with quality domestic processors to develop non-perishable food items that are ready-to-eat or ready-to–cook. The products consist of five categories ranging from staples, non-staples, soups, desserts, to beverages. The central idea is to covey a refreshing image of “nutritional”, “flavorful”, “healthful”, and “innovative” for domestic ingredients among citizens. All are welcome to shop for disease-prevention food at countrywide POYA stores.
