Crossover collaboration with National Palace Museum for local master chefs to design creative menus that open up new markets for domestic grains

Release date:2020-11-07
To promote the new culinary trend in domestic grains under the concept of grain-based “bountiful table cuisines” and art-inspired “spirit-nourishing food”, the Agriculture and Food Agency, the Council of Agriculture (AFA) embarks on a crossover collaboration with The National Palace Museum (NPM) to host “A Great Drama in the Granary”—The Joint Launch of New Domestic Grain Products at the Southern Branch of The National Palace Museum at 10:00 AM on November 7, 2020. Situating in the origin of domestic grains, Yun-Chia-Nan Plain, the event complements the NPM exhibition “Feast of Bronzes: Ritual and Music from Ancient Times” by having the rising star in Taiwanese cuisines Chef Wen Kuo-Ji and 18 reputable local stores to create innovative new menus using domestic grains, creating a space where ancient and modern food cultures intertwine and shine. Those food items will soon be available at the respective store for everyone to have a piece of this wonderful feast.

Ritual and music instruments from Shang and Zhou Dynasty to light up the feast of domestic grains

The AFA points out that for the promotion of domestic grains, this event specifically selects NPM’s bronze collection exhibition that features ritual and music instruments from Shang and Zhou Dynasties. Reputable local stores are invited to create dishes using locally-grown grains like peanuts, corn, sorghum, Job’s tears, wheat, soybeans, red quinoas, sweet potatoes, and Adzuki beans. By presenting the dining culture of both old and new in a coherent fashion, this event not only creates a majestic feast for the land but also allows the public to experience the wonderfulness of domestic grains in this sanctuary of art.

This joint launch of new grain products is set to take place at the Sothern Branch of The National Palace Museum. The executive chef Wen Kuo-Ji gathers 18 specialty stores within the region, namely A-Sin Sushi, Boulangerie Shakespeare & Co., Gold Medal Sichuan Cuisines, Yuh Tong Hotel, Man Fu Lou Wedding Plaza, Ban Mu Tian Beef Noodles, Shisijia Radish Cake, Galaxy Food, Liou Yuan Fine Cuisine, Wei Go Catering, Hsiaoyuan Wedding Banquet Restaurant, Fuyuan Rice Dumpling, Thefreen Burger, Solarfarm, Smart Fish, iceSpring, Dong Chun House & Shan Liang New Era, and KiLi Bay Bubble Tea Shop. Their amazing chefs come together to design cuisines specifically around domestic grains. “Ritual Sound of the King”—the theme song of the “Feast of Bronzes” exhibition also bolds perfectly to bring out the splendidness and majestic of the chefs’ tableside performances. For those of you at home, you will get to enjoy those wonderful food items at their respective store.

Fresh domestic grains—safe, healthful, and widely recommended

The AFA elaborates that aside from the contribution of reputable dining providers, this event also invites quality suppliers, distributors, travel agencies, tourism factories, and food processors to promote the rich diversity of domestic grain products. Whether used as fresh ingredients, condiments, gifts, or processed products, domestic grains are full of competitiveness and potential. By bringing about new matchmaking opportunities, the event facilitates industrial collaborations that create values and benefit all parties, in the hope of turning around how we view and use domestic grains.
