Academia joining force with research institutes to jump-start atemoya processing
The AFA explains that as a premium fruit, atemoyas were mostly purchased for holiday gifting and fresh consumption, and processing was rarely attempted. In line with Taiwan’s handmade drink culture where new flavors are constantly demanded, the drink chain “TEA TOP” developed the first-ever atemoya-based hand-shaken drink “Good Things Happen with Atemoya and Milk”, which hit the market today and will soon be rolled out to 45 stores nationwide. In support of the government’s initiative to expand demand for the fruit, this move is expected to lead more counterparts to follow suit. At the same day, pineapple cakes infused with atemoya ingredients by Yuan Ming Food and pineapple atemoya pastries by Ching Tse Food are also launched.
Diverse processed products to provide a multitude of atemoya enjoyments to consumers
The AFA further explains that in response to the temporary Chinese suspension of the import of Taiwanese atemoyas, the AFA sought a range of measures to stabilize supply and demand. Aside from already frozen atemoyas for export, fresh atemoya cuts at nationwide Family Marts, the AFA collaborated with National Chung Hsing University to produce more varieties of processed atemoya products. The AFA advocates that as we enter the prime season of atemoya, the fruit has become excellent in quality and abundant in supply. With rich dietary fibers, vitamins, and diverse nutrients, it is also suitable to be processed into handmade drinks, bakery pastries, among other processed products. That way, people can easily enjoy tasty and nutritious atemoyas at any time and play a role in stabilizing supply and demand.
