Public and private collaboration to reinvigorate agri-food industry

Release date:2019-01-19
Today on January 19th, the AFA (Agriculture and Food Agency) takes the opportunity of “Safe and Assuring—Sustainable Agri-food: 2017 AFA Appreciation Press Conference” to extend its gratitude to corporations that contributed to AFA’s efforts in promoting and marketing agricultural products in 2018. By acting in support of Taiwan’s agriculture and famers, these entities fulfilled their corporate responsibility and set an excellent example for future endeavors.

Sound policy drew overwhelming corporate participation

The AFA says that this press conference is held to pay tribute to 13 enterprises that have made significant contribution to agricultural marketing. Eight of them, namely First Commercial Bank, Mega International Commercial Bank, Land Bank of Taiwan, Shin Kong Life Insurance, Hua Nan Commercial Bank, Taiwan Fertilizer Company, CPC Corp., and Union Bank of Taiwan purchased in-season produce to help out farmers. Kerry TJ Logistics has been offering free delivery service since 2013 in support of AFA’s initiative to give agri-products to underprivileged groups. Family Mart and Eastern Home Shopping & Leisure Co chipped in marketing efforts. Yunta Bio Technology and Kuai Kuai Co. made use of their expertise in developing new processing techniques and processed products. And the AFA has nothing but appreciation for these commendable companies – thank you for stepping up for Taiwan’s agriculture.

Continuous support from all sectors essential to the sustainable agricultural development

The AFA outlines the measures it plans to implement in 2019 for balancing the supply and demand and bringing about an industrywide transformation, as follows: 1. Strengthen the ongoing Green Environmental Payment on Land as well as Big Granary Project to achieve the structural adjustment of the industry; 2. Continue to build infrastructures like greenhouses, large agricultural logistics centers, cold chain supply systems and platforms like industrial alliances to balance the supply and demand; 3. Establish regional processing centers and relevant regulations to tighten the management of primary processing plants to create added-values in agricultural products; 4. In terms of agricultural safety, schools are encouraged to use ingredients certified in organic or TAP certification, which improves the adoption of TAP and country’s overall food safety. But that alone wouldn’t be enough, thus the AFA calls for everyone’s support, and together we are able to make Taiwan’s agriculture long-term competitive and sustainable.
